What Is Netball? Netball is a fast paced and dynamic, team sport that emphasizes quick passing, movement, and tactical play. While it shares some similarities with basketball and korfball, netball has no dribbling, defined player positions, and a focus on precision and teamwork. Traditionally played by women, it’s now embraced by all genders around the world.

The sport is played by over 20 million people across more than 80 countries worldwide. It is especially popular in Commonwealth nations, with the top four netball-playing countries being: Australia (current world champions), New Zealand, England and Jamaica

Netball continues to grow in popularity in Europe and beyond, with increasing investment in youth programs, international tournaments, and club development. Events like this weekend’s international fixture reflect the sport’s expanding footprint in the Netherlands and across mainland Europe.

Amsterdam Netball Club Founded in 2014 as the first netball club in the Netherlands, Amsterdam Netball Club (ANC) has grown into a vibrant, inclusive community welcoming players of all backgrounds and skill levels.

ANC offers regular training, competitive league play, and monthly newcomer sessions. Notably, ANC’s annual tournament has become one of Europe’s premier amateur netball events, attracting 18 teams from across Europe every year.
