Distinguishing the fittest from the brightest and all that’s in between

Which bone in the human body is broken the most? What are the character names of all four leading ladies in ‘80’s sitcom The Golden Girls? In which year were Nike Air Max shoes first launched? Consider these the relatively simpler questions posed at Amsterdam Netball’s first fundraising event for 2018. In teams of five, the club pitted themselves against one other, each striving to attain that competitive edge and ultimate glory. Led by our Irish quizmasters at the ever lively Molly Malone’s in the centre of Amsterdam, and fueled by a meal of traditional Irish stew and Guinness, it was time to sort out the fittest from the brightest. Sports trivia, geography and television sitcoms were just some of the areas of expertise which suited some, and others not so much.
While teams furiously debated the number of phone listings in the first ever Dutch telephone directory published in the late 1800s, correct answers were replaced by incorrect ones as different opinions, backgrounds and experience ensued. With beaut prizes at stake including a session with master photographer, Nadine van der Wielen from Snap Me Pretty, delicious New Zealand wine kindly donated by The Kiwi, a beautiful Rituals package and a highly sought after physiotherapy massage, tensions were high. In the end, we congratulate Nick Post and his equally smart counterparts in taking out top prize. And to all the other smarties who placed higher up on the leaderboard. Also, a big thanks to Marie, Georgia and the rest of the sponsorship team for organising the event and for shamelessly selling raffle tickets at half time. In total, over 800 euros was raised!
In the meantime, some of us will be heading back to the netball court to retain their reputations, while others may have found a whole new calling…
