If you’re lucky enough to experience a Dutch spring, then a must-see on every Nestie’s calendar should no doubt be the beautiful tulip fields of Holland. With a vast flat landscape and bike paths accessible all throughout the Netherlands, you will find fields as close as an hour’s ride from Amsterdam. In fact, not far from the renowned Keukenhof, you will uncover tulips of all colours of the rainbow visible at every corner.
Over the Easter break, two of the club’s longer serving Nestie Besties decided to set out on a balmy 24 degree day (it’s rare, but it does happen). From Hoofdoorp, they easily made their way to the fields of Lisse and Sassenheim, before making a pit stop at Como & Co for a delicious breakfast platter. Having restored their energy, they continued on to Noordwijk aan Zee, and unbeknownst to them, a longer than expected detour through sand dunes all the way up to Zandvoort.
Not used to climbing so many “Dutch mountains” it was time for these Nesties to head home and reflect on what turned out to be a 70km tour of a mostly unique and stunning offering. While they look forward to a long hot shower and a massage (one can hope), here’s wishing for glorious warm skies to return so that you too can make the most of the last few weeks of these amazing bloemen displays.
