The netballer’s retreat

Positano, Amalfi Coast

As a nestie based in Amsterdam, we have the luxury of being on the doorstep to a host of amazing European destinations. And with the summer break fast approaching, there’s no better way to escape from all things netball related, treating yourself to the holiday of your dreams…

On this particular occasion, I chose the Amalfi Coast. One, because I’d never seen an Italian beach before, two, because after ten months of sub-par conditions I needed a tan, and three, because this winter baby needed to know what a summer birthday felt like.

I recommend basing yourself in Maiori. It not only has the longest stretch of beach along the Amalfi Coast, but it’s a lovely coastal town with plenty of shops, restaurants, fresh fruit, and of course, great coffee. Plus, you’re surrounded by the friendliest of locals. Day trips to Positano, Amalfi and Cetara are easily and cheaply accessible by boat…or bus, if you like living life on the edge.

Known for their lemons, be sure to try Amalfi’s world famous limoncello, stock up your kitchen with lemon printed ceramics, wash using lemon scented soap, and dine under trellises of lemon trees at The Pineta Bar. Or simply buy the real deal at your local Italian grocer.

Here is some photographic evidence of this brief but relaxing escape. In the meantime, I wish all fellow nesties a nice break between seasons 🙂
